The Institute for Criminological and Sociological Research, in cooperation with the Institute for Comparative Law and the Judicial Academy, successfully organized the tenth International Conference "Shaping Justice: How Criminal Law and Justice Respond to Contemporary Social Challenges". The event was held on November 28, 2025, in the premises of the Institute for Criminological and Sociological Research and brought together prominent experts from Serbia and abroad.

The conference was formally opened by Ivana Stevanović, director of the Institute for Criminological and Sociological Research; Srđan Pavličić, director of the Judicial Academy; Mario Reljanović, assistant director of the Institute for Comparative Law; and Goran Ilić, public prosecutor of the Supreme Public Prosecutor's Office, who emphasized the importance of strengthening the dialogue between the academic community, judicial institutions and legal practitioners in the context of contemporary social challenges and changes in the field of criminal legislation.

The introductory presentation was held by prof. Milan Škulić, judge of the Constitutional Court and one of the leading authorities in the field of criminal law, who spoke about the transformative pressures that modern society imposes on criminal law policy, with special reference to the analysis of proposed changes to the Criminal Code of the Republic of Serbia.

The continuation of the program was followed by panels and presentations by researchers and practitioners from Brazil, Germany, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hungary, Spain and Russia, together with prominent scientists and practitioners from Serbia. The participants presented comparative legal research, case studies and theoretical analyzes dealing with contemporary trends in criminal law, judicial practice, international standards and the wider socio-legal context.

The conference was attended by more than 80 judges, prosecutors, judicial and prosecutorial associates, participants of the initial training of the Judicial Academy, students of the Faculty of Law of the University of Belgrade, as well as students of the University of Criminology and Police Studies. The participants had the opportunity to exchange experiences, discuss new trends in criminal law and engage in a constructive dialogue on improving the judiciary's response to complex social phenomena.

By gathering representatives of the academic community, the judiciary, the prosecution and future legal professionals, the conference once again confirmed the importance of organizing such events in order to develop interdisciplinary cooperation and continuous professional training in shaping an efficient, fair and modern criminal justice system.
