Case representation skills - training for public prosecutors
In the framework of the joint project of the Judicial Academy and the Republic Public Prosecutor's Office, which is supported by the Office of the US Ministry of Justice, the US Embassy in Belgrade and the OSCE Mission in Serbia, in 2014 a seminar on "Case representation skills - training for public prosecutors" was designed.
The main goal of the training is the professional development of the professional knowledge of public prosecutors for the application of the skills of representing cases at trial, in order to successfully conduct proceedings according to the Code of Criminal Procedure. The following thematic units are covered within this training:
• Preparation of cases for trial and opening statements - exercises related to the opening statement;
• Basic examination, special questions and exercises related to the basic examination;
• Cross-examination and special questions – cross-examination exercises;
• Closing speech - presentation and exercises.
The training is organized as a trial simulation: analysis of the factual scenario and preparation, presentation of the prosecution's case and cross-examination, presentation of the defense's case and closing arguments.
Each segment of the training consists of two parts: an expert presentation related to a specific unit and special sections intended for discussion, during which examples from practice are given and the influence of certain factors on the course of the procedure is discussed.
The training was set up on the electronic platform of the Judicial Academy (https://lms.pars.rs/).
