On Tuesday, November 13, 2018, the Ministry of Justice presented to the expert jury of the Society for Informatics of Serbia two projects that were successfully implemented in 2018 and their effects.

With the project "Video interrogation of persons in prison via a protected Internet connection - Skype For Business", the Ministry of Justice established audio-video communication between the criminal departments of the basic and higher courts and the Penitentiary in Sremska Mitrovica, which enables judges to interrogate persons serving prison sentences without bringing them to the courtroom.

This system is implemented using the Skype For Business software, installed in the data center of the Ministry of Justice, respecting the legal and information security standards requirements. The video conference between the criminal departments of the basic and higher courts and the Penitentiary in Sremska Mitrovica is carried out within the protected judicial network, without using infrastructure located outside the territory of the Republic of Serbia.

The main effect of this system is reflected in the elimination of the need to bring persons who are serving a prison sentence to the courtroom, which solves a number of security risks and realizes obvious and immediate savings, primarily the costs of transportation by special vehicles and daily wages of employees in the institutions of the Administration for the Execution of Criminal Sanctions.

In the course of 2017 and 2018, 10,163 persons deprived of liberty were heard in parole cases with their mandatory presence in court. During the next year, the ministry plans to expand the video conference system to 70% of hearings, which will result in a large budget saving of 13,473,404 dinars, according to the announcement.
