The teams from the Judicial Academy and the EU for Serbia – Support to the High Court of Cassation Project organized a two-day workshop in Ečka for the representatives of mediation info-services from two dozen of courts from the territory of entire Serbia.

During the first day of the workshop, the representatives of info-services presented the results of their work and good practice, and on the second day lectures on the following topics were given:
  • Organizing the work of an Info-Service
  • Procedures and forms used in Info-Services
  • Internal and external coordination
  • Promotion of the Info-Services for mediation

The lecturers on this training were: Nebojša Đuričić, the Second Basic Court judge, Sanja Kostić, a High Court judge in Niš, Milica Zlatković, an Appellate CourtJudge in Niš and Mirjana Golubović, Head of the Department for Specialized Knowledge and Skills at the Judicial Academy.

In accordance with its annual program of training for 2019, the Judicial Academy organized in Belgrade on 15 March a workshop entitled “Advanced training for public relations – presenting mediation in the media”.

The training was organized for the spokespersons and heads of the Mediation Information Services.
The objective of this workshop was to develop the participants’ knowledge and advanced skills for promoting mediation, particularly in the media and public relations, and to become as efficient as possible in connection with the success of mediation for the purpose of reducing caseload and improving court efficiency.

The workshop was attended by the presidents and spokepersons of the basic and higher courts from the territory of the Belgrade appellate court, as well as the heads of the Mediation Information Services.

The lecturer was Mirjana Golubović, the Head of the Department for Special Knowledge and Skills of the Judicial Academy.

The Judicial Academy, assisted by the project team of the Prevention and the Fight against Corruption Project funded within the EU IPA 2013 pre-accession assistance for Serbia, organized a workshop at the Hotel Museum on 18 April.

The topic of the workshop was application of the Law on Organization and Jurisdiction of the State Bodies in Combating Organized Crime, Terrorism and Corruption – an analysis of the case-law in the second-instance corruption cases, contentious issues for judges of the first-instance.

The workshop was dedicated to judges of Appellate Courts for the purpose of an exchange of experiences in enforcing the Law until present and discussions on the following topics:

  • Examination of motions to indict;
  • Dilemmas regarding the acceptance of circumstantial evidence and non-uniform practice;
  • Overuse of special probative actions;
  • Possibilities for use of the evidence presented in the criminal proceedings for seizure of assets associated with criminal activity;
  • Status of forensic officers.

In Belgrade, at Zira Hotel, the Judicial Academy, in cooperation with the OSCE Mission, conducted the sixth this-year workshop within the two-year programme of training of public prosecutors and their deputies, which is focused on the powers a public prosecutor with respect to the police according to the Criminal Procedure Code, with special reference to the evidence gathering in crime scene investigations and enhancement of the knowledge of public prosecutors in the area of criminalistics.

On 17 and 18 December 2019, as the result of the good last-year cooperation and positive results of the seminar, the Judicial Academy, in cooperation with the United Nations Team, for 40 participants, organized a two-day workshop on the topic: „Direct application of the United Nations standards in the area of the protection of human rights“.

The one-day workshop was divided into two days, in view of the number of senior associates at the Commercial Appellate Court.
The lecturers on this training were Jasmina Stamenković and Ivana Pavlović, the Commercial Appellate Court judges.

In cooperation with the World Bank, the Judicial Academy organized a one-day seminar on the topic of Orderliness and Lawfulness of a Pre-pack Reorganization Plan on 22 March 2019.

The seminar was organized for judges and judges' assistants of commercial courts from the jurisdiction of the Kragujevac Appellate Court.
After a short introduction, some hypothetical situations and presentations of a pre-pack reorganization plan were presented.
The second part of the seminar was a workshop on which the participants were given tasks with specific cases taken from practice, including presentation of the problems that judges of commercial courts are faced with.
The lecturers on this training were Duška Ilić and Tatjana Đurica, judges of the Commercial Appellate Court.
